I sent off my first resume today for a job in Champaign. It’s for a position at Wolfram Research. They make a software product called Mathematica which is mostly used by scientists.
The odd thing about Wolfram is that they don’t necessarily advertise specific openings. You fill out a web form and answer some very specific techie questions and there you have it. The whole process is done online. It’s been nine years since I’ve looked for a job, have things changed this much or is this just a case of a software company being cutting edge?
At any rate, I have my fingers crossed. We’ll see if Wolfram bites. I have an odd mix of skills, and I’m finding that most companies are looking for specialists. I’m a bit more of a generalist. Probably explains why I like to multi-class when I play RPGs. 😉

Is that the research branch of Wolfram and Hart? Be sure they don’t have vampire detectors in the lobby, that’s all I’m saying. Or a cache of magical weapons in the basement.
On second thought, that might be pretty cool.
Anything that would aid me in using my powers for AWESOME sounds good to me. 😉
I didn’t realize awesomely evil was a valid alignment.
Man, D&D sure has changed since I was in junior high.
Even evil people should have style… 😉

Good luck with getting a job. I’m friends with one of the co-founders and he’s really nice so I would imagine he’s a great guy to work for.
Thanks. I’m sort of in flux right now. I keep getting hints from my current employer that I might be able to telecommute from Champaign. Unfortunately, hints don’t pay the rent so I’m also searching for job.
It’s really weird looking for a job after being out of the market for so long.
