Looks like and I will be going to Los Angeles the first week of June. We’ll be looking at two schools she’s considering for her PhD… UC Santa Barbara and Arizona State. As part of the trip I’ll be competing in a tournament in Mesa, AZ for a miniatures game that I play. Should be a good time, and it will be nice to see all my friends that have migrated out west.

If Liz gets into her top choice (UC SB), I’ll be migrating out there myself. I’m not sure yet how I feel about that yet. It’s exciting, for sure.

But… and there is always a but… I’m loathe to switch jobs/companies if I don’t have to. My company doesn’t have anything near SB. In order to stay with them, it would require a monster commute to LA. Ouch. With gas prices the way they are… that’s a double ouch. Still, they’ve been good to me, and if I can, I’ll try to stay with them.

Of course, none of this really matters right now… she wouldn’t be starting school for another year and a half. There’s plenty of time to worry about that stuff later.

Gotta get back to work!

  • While the city of LA does have a subway, there is no regular train service that I know of from Santa Barbara to the city.

Liz and I have discussed living in between LA and Santa Barbara so that we would both have to commute. That’s sounding more and more like a solution to me.

    1. Sounds like living in between is the best idea there..Im sure that you would get used to the commute although it would be a pain at first , Im sure alot of people do it that way that work in LA….still its a little out of the way. 🙂

      1. But I still have my fingers crossed for a better solution. 🙂

    1. 2 hours each way without traffic. LA traffic is legendary so I’m sure you can probably add another hour to that easily. It would be a killer.
