As you all know, I’ve been working on my resume/cv lately. I’ve sent it out to several people for comments to get opinions on what should and shouldn’t go into a resume.

When I look at my original draft compared to the current resume I wonder how on earth I thought I was going to get a job with that crap. I feel bad now that some poor HR person might have seen the old version.* It’s horrid.

The new version isn’t perfect, but man… it has some beautiful stuff in it. I just wish the American idea of fitting everything onto one page could finally be put to rest. I think the one page format works great for specialists, but as a generalist, I find it confining. My skills and experiences are too varied to fit into the one page box, but I somehow did it (with a little help from some friends).

Collaborative resume building is where it’s at. If anyone on the list would like to see my most recent version, I would be happy to send it to you. I’m always open to tips and suggestions.

*One HR dept was sent my “original”, another HR dept and a recruiter was sent v2, one more was sent v3 (we’re on v4 now).
