Last night and I ate at Friends restaurant where the lamb chops are awesome. It’s not far from our little duplex in Colonialtown so we walked. Dinner was fine, as expected, but that’s not all that was fine last night. 😉

We decided to make a little detour on the way home. No… not to the Peacock Room. 😉 Nope, there’s this new place on Mills about two blocks from our duplex that has been intriguing since the sign first went up. Café D’Antaño beckoned to me with its name and with the fact that it was in a former perfume shop… and a salon before that.

I had never seen anyone about the place before, but last night it seemed like there was quite a crowd. We opened the door to floutist and a trumpeter playing some old school spanish song. It looked like someone’s living room. They stopped playing for a second and smiled at us.

The first words out of my mouth were… “What is the place?” To which the various responses can be summed up as… “You’ve just walked into heaven on earth… Welcome Brother.” While the response were in English, it was fairly obvious that English was everyone’s second language.

and I looked at each other for a second. Then I announced… “I’m in!” and headed further inside the little place. Wine and beer was being served so we had a glass, or two, as we lazed on a couch in a corner and watched a cast of characters playing instruments and singing spanish songs.

All in all… a good way to end our evening. If you want to take a little vacation to another country… try Café D’Antaño. It’ll be fun… and you won’t have to go through the hassle of getting a passport.

  • I felt like we were in a secret counterculture bar/cafe set in Cuba before the revolution or something like that . . .

It’s a small place, but the wine is good and the people are nice. We went again and found out that the owners are from Puerto Rico.

Since we live right around the corner, we’ll definitely be going back again. 🙂
