It has to do with the fact that broadcast radio and tv are allowed to use the airwaves by us the public (as represented by the government). This is a privilege for broadcasters… NOT A RIGHT! That’s where the original fairness doctrine came into play. Since broadcasting is not a right, broadcasters have to abide by certain rules. One of those rules used to be the fairness doctrine. Another one of those rules is the concept of indecency.
I may not always agree with how the rules are enforced, but I think the fairness doctrine is just as good, if not a better, rule than the indecency one. 😉
This definitely needs to be enforced….(especially since i listen to so much damn talk radio ;-)..)all jokes aside…it is very important,and I signed! 🙂
