OK… I said I wouldn’t be posting, but I just had to note that my new computer was announced today. It’s the ultra-sweet Powermac G5. I can’t believe I have to wait until August to get my grubby little hands on it. 🙁 Oh, but I will get my grubby little hands on it. 😀
Cool!
Just out of curiosity, what are you planning on doing with your old mac?

Once I get my data transferred over… I was going to play around a little to see if I could get OS X running on it, but if someone really wants they can have it.
It’s too old to run OS X without using a boot utility like X Post Facto…

Still… I think the machine has enough RAM that OS X wouldn’t be a complete dog on it. It has a rather small 4.5GB SCSI Hard drive so there isn’t a ton of space for storage, but it has worked fine for me over the years. In recent years I had thought of buying a ATA/IDE card so I could get a larger hard disk, but I decided to hold off and wait for the G5.
I’ve been waiting for the G5 for over a year now. Woohoo!!!! 😀
Hmmm….
How much would it cost me if I wanted to buy it from you?
Cause that would be very useful for me in running the game methinks (oh and for school too, but who cares about school).

I think I would be arrested if I actually charged someone for it. If you really want it, you can have it after I get my new machine in August. I’m not sure yet if I’m keeping my monitor, but if I decide not… you can have that too. 🙂

haha
Well whats so bad about it? I mean 4.5 gigs isn’t that bad for a laptop
What are its other stats?
Jesse D.
Ahhh… that’s where you are sadly mistaken sir… it’s not a laptop. It’s a desktop. sorry…

D’oh
Nevermind then.
🙂

That’s cool… I do have three old Mac laptops. One (Duo 230) is too old for any real application. However it will run a form of Linux with a couple of caveats…

Another (Duo 2300) is better since it at least has PPC processor, but it’s still a bit old and does not support OS X. However it does support MkLinux.
Then there is the next step up (1400c). This machine is the fastest laptop I have, but unfortunately, it also does not support OS X. Again, it does support MkLinux.
Info on MkLinux can be found at…

There are other distros that might work, but the above are the most heavily supported for the noted machines. I’ve never actually tried installing Linux on any of them so I don’t know what kinds of bumps might crop up.
Hmm….
Well I have been really meaning to learn Linux…
